Marine Fire Protection
South Florida Vessels & Marinas

What We Provide
Marine Fire Protection Inspection, Service & Installation
Fire aboard a vessel is one of the most dangerous emergencies anyone can face. Escape routes are limited, water is unavailable for suppression in the conventional sense, and fire can spread rapidly through enclosed bilge spaces and engine rooms before passengers are even aware it has started.
At Firemax Fire Protection, our licensed fire protection company provides complete marine fire protection services for commercial vessels, charter boats, yachts, marinas, and boatyards across South Florida. We service portable fire extinguishers, fixed engine room suppression systems, and marina fire protection infrastructure.
Marine fire protection requirements are governed by NFPA 303, NFPA 10, and U.S. Coast Guard regulations. Coast Guard inspections actively enforce these requirements for commercial vessels operating in Florida waters, and non-compliant equipment results in failed inspections and vessel out-of-service orders.
"The engine room suppression system activated and extinguished the fire before it reached the fuel tanks. The vessel and crew were safe."
Marine environments demand purpose-built fire protection. We service the systems that protect vessels and the people aboard them.

Why It Matters
Common Marine Fire Protection Problems We Solve
Marine fire protection is one of the most frequently neglected areas of vessel maintenance. These are the compliance and safety issues we encounter most often.
Expired or Uncertified Fire Extinguishers
USCG regulations and NFPA 10 require portable fire extinguishers aboard vessels to be inspected annually and hydrostatically tested on schedule. Expired extinguishers are among the most common violations cited during Coast Guard vessel inspections, and they result in immediate out-of-service orders for commercial vessels.
Untested Fixed Suppression Systems
Fixed engine room suppression systems must be inspected annually by a licensed contractor. Many vessel owners are unaware of this requirement or have not had service performed since original installation. An untested system may have lost agent charge, failed detection components, or corroded discharge nozzles that prevent activation.
Wrong Extinguisher Type for Marine Use
Not all fire extinguishers are USCG-approved for marine use. Vessels must carry the correct number and type of USCG-approved extinguishers based on vessel length and engine configuration. We assess your vessel's specific requirements and ensure the right equipment is in the right locations.
Corroded Components in Salt Air Environments
South Florida's saltwater environment accelerates corrosion of fire protection components including extinguisher cylinders, suppression system nozzles, and detection wiring. Annual inspection identifies corroded components before they fail at a critical moment.
Marina Infrastructure Non-Compliance
Marinas and boatyards must meet NFPA 303 requirements for fire extinguisher placement, fire department connections, and fire protection access. Many marinas fall behind on infrastructure maintenance and documentation, creating liability exposure and insurance compliance issues.
No Documentation for Coast Guard or Insurance
Commercial vessel operators and marina owners must maintain current fire protection inspection records for Coast Guard inspections and commercial marine insurance renewals. We provide complete documentation in formats accepted by the USCG and major marine insurers.

Frequently Asked Questions
USCG regulations require vessels to carry a specific number and type of USCG-approved marine fire extinguishers based on vessel length and whether the vessel has enclosed engine compartments. The requirements range from one B-I extinguisher for boats under 26 feet to multiple extinguishers of varying sizes for larger vessels. Commercial vessels have additional requirements based on passenger capacity and service type.
USCG regulations and NFPA 10 require annual inspection of portable fire extinguishers. Extinguishers also require hydrostatic testing every 6 or 12 years depending on type. Extinguishers that show signs of damage, corrosion, or low pressure must be serviced or replaced immediately regardless of inspection schedule.
Yes. Fixed engine room suppression systems must be inspected annually by a licensed contractor. The inspection covers agent charge, detection system function, nozzle condition, actuation devices, and all automatic interlocks including fuel and ventilation shutoffs. An untested fixed system cannot be relied upon during an actual engine room fire.
NFPA 303 is the Standard for Marinas and Boatyards. It governs fire protection requirements for the land-based portions of marina and boatyard facilities, including fire extinguisher placement, fire department access, electrical systems, and fuel handling. Most commercial marinas in Florida are required to comply with NFPA 303 and are subject to inspection by local AHJs and fire marshals.
Yes. We perform fire protection inspections and service at the dock or boatyard, eliminating the need to haul the vessel out of the water for most services. We coordinate scheduling around vessel use and marina access to minimize disruption to your operations.
We provide a complete inspection and certification report listing every piece of fire protection equipment serviced, its certification status, and any deficiencies found and corrected. Reports are formatted to be presented directly to Coast Guard inspectors during vessel inspections and to marine insurance carriers during policy renewals.
