Fire alarm monitoring is the service that connects a building’s local alarm system to a UL listed central station capable of receiving the signal and dispatching the fire department, 24 hours a day, regardless of whether anyone is present in the building to hear the local alarm. Without monitoring, a fire alarm’s notification function is limited to whoever happens to be in or near the building when it activates.
The reliability of the connection between the panel and the monitoring facility is the technical core of this service. Communication paths have evolved from dedicated phone lines to cellular and internet-based transmission, and each method carries different failure modes: a cellular path fails differently than a landline, which fails differently than an IP connection riding on the building’s internet service. NFPA 72 addresses communication path reliability and supervision requirements specifically because a monitored system that cannot actually reach the central station provides a false sense of security.
We provide UL listed central station monitoring for commercial and multi-family properties throughout South Florida, coordinating communication path selection and testing with the property’s specific building infrastructure and connectivity.
